Answer #1:
Found by: Dave-
Located in Waltham, MA, Metro Hospital is about as creepy as old mental hospitals come.
Built in the 1930's as a sister hospital to Danvers, Metro has seen its fair share of the usual patient abuses found in mental hospitals.
Lobotomies, electroshock, insulin coma therapy, ice therapy.....paitents were burned and abused....
One particularly grisly case that happened at Metro was the case of Ann Marie Davee, 36, who had been a resident of Metro for 18 years. In 1978, she went missing, and was never heard from again. This was used as an example in a building case against the hospital for suspicious disappearances and deaths including drownings in bathtubs, chokings, and flat-out disappearances like Ms. Davee's.
Two years later, in 1980, a state MHMR inspector was visiting Metro and noticed a patient playing with a handful of human teeth. The teeth turned out to belong to Ms. Davee. The patient in posession apparently pointed investigators in the direction of another patient who then confessed to the rape, murder, and dismemberment of Ann Marie Davee on hospital grounds. He led police to 4 or 5 holes around the campus where most of her remains were found.
Information on this and other frightening abuses at Metro can be found by searching the archives of the Boston Globe, though I have to warn you - if you do it online, its a pay/register site.
One other creepy aside.....Metro was also home to a couple of funcioning surgery and anatomy theaters, including one where people could watch autopsies in the morgue.
